Hello Quines,

Pleased to have found your links to our site - you should have e-mailed us! We now have a
Diary page on our site and if you have looked at this you will see that Nina and I (who make
the site) both used to live in Edinburgh and still have ties there.

You might also like to link to Maggie's Centre, take a look:

Subject: Re: Breast Cancer links

Hello all,
delighted to receive your message and wearing my 'techie' hat the URL!
Last October we highlighted breast cancer awareness week and will do so
again. If you know of any special events/fundraisers then we'll gladly add
them to our 'Events' section.

Way off-topic but I've been very involved with the women's campaign for a
Scottish Parliament (devolution vote on 11th September 1997) and we're
having a hard time getting people to give us their views on what impact a
Scottish Parliament would have on women. (it's been pointed out that all
responsibility for gender equality will remain with Westminster). But given
that 'Health' will now come under the remit of a SP are you aware at all of
how Scottish medical charities are planning to handle this change or would
you know someone able to give an informed opinion on the subject?

P.S. For more details please visit the Scottish parliament section of the
Engender site (URL below).

Keep in touch!

OK. Most are likely to be run by Scottish Breast Cancer Campaign. You might want to join
and get on their mailing list. The address

po Box 12202
Edinburgh EH10 5EN

>But given
>that 'Health' will now come under the remit of a SP are you aware at all of

No.

>or would
>you know someone able to give an informed opinion on the subject?

Suzanne Wotherspoon, Convenor of the Scottish Breast Cancer Campaign, would prob be a good
start. She is knowledgeable on parliamentary matters related to breast cancer. Bettina Strang,
wife of Gavin Strang, used to be on the board of the SBCC but is now chair of the UK forum of
Europa Donna, the pan-European breast cancer organisation. I will give you Suzanne's phone
number below but this is her home number so I don't give it out willy-nilly and she may be
touchy about being phoned. Post will reach her at the SBCC address.

Sorry, I don't really have any more general women's health contacts I can suggest.

best wishes,

Marie

Dear Marie or Nina,
I have been looking at your Cancer Helpline. I am very interested in
getting any information on lymphodema. I had my right breast removed
two and a half years ago and half my lymph glands removed. I am doing
very well apart from the lymphodema which affects me every day.
I would appreciate any information you could help me with.

You're welcome Marie,
Was pleased to find your web site today after
corresponding with a woman in the UK who is
writing to the internet BC mailing list

You might like to put sub info about it on your
web site also (if it isn't there already)

listserv@morgan.ucs.mun.ca
blank subject
for the message put:

subscribe breast-cancer yourfirstname yourlastname

After corresponding with this woman in London
I wonder if you've thought about setting up a mailing
list for women living in the UK with BC.

The net list might be useful to discuss issues
globally but perhaps there are special issues you
folks might like to talk about.

If you are interested......I believe the person
who publishes the listserv software offers the
opportunity for free mailing lists for public
service interest like this. If you'd like more info
let me know

The folks in the UK might also be interested
in knowing that there is now a mailing list for
women (and men) with inflammatory BC and a special
web site also.

** Group mail: ibc@bestiary.com
** To unsubscribe: ibc-request@bestiary.com, say "unsubscribe" in body.
** Public Web Site: http://www.bestiary.com/ibc/

To subscribe one can write to: ibc-request@bestiary.com, say 'subscribe' in body of
message

Hope this will be helpful......and hope you'll consider
subbing to the net BC list to tell folks about your site
and UK resources

Marianne

Hi again Marianne,

>You might like to put sub info about it on your
>web site also (if it isn't there already)

It is, in Feedback, but I'll put your message in the latest batch when I add it in Aug.
I did join the BC list for a while but personally couldn't handle the volume of mail
and the US bias. There is some discussion about setting up a BC list and/or a cancer
list in the UK and also running a fixed term/membership BC group in the UK similar
to a teleconferencing support group recently run by a working party on the needs of
women with secondary breast cancer. I don't intend to set any of these up single-handedly
and am trying to encourage UK BC charities and other interested web'sters to do so. Most
UK cancer charities do not have web sites and only a few have recently gone on e-mail.

Yes, please that would be helpful.

I'll put this in Feedback too.

Our URL should be in the archives, I did mention it and I believe other UK users also have.
Feel free to mention it again. I hope to up-date the site on 1st of Aug but Feedback
additions might not go on until a bit later.

best wishes,

Marie

Dear Marie,
I do hope that you'll be able to set up a UK mailing list.
This is the website with listserv info:

http://www.lsoft.com/listserv-lite.html#WHATFE

If you would like you can send a message to the
breast-cancer mailing list without actually being a subscriber.

Folks who don't access the archives might not find out about
your site.

Perhaps you'd like to consider posting a message every month
with info about UK resources so that the newcomer subscribers
will see it.

You can just send it to

breast-cancer@morgan.ucs.mun.ca

Best wishes with all your endeavors

Marianne

Hi Marianne,

Thanks for that.

>Perhaps you'd like to consider posting a message every month

>will see it.

That's a good idea. I'll do that each time I up-date the site (roughly the start of each month).

best wishes, Marie

Subject: breast cancer pink ribbon

Dear Marie Nally or Nina Pope,

We are currently working on the promotion and marketing of Australia's
breast screening program - providing free mammograms for women over
40 but specifically targeting the 50-69 age group.

We are now developing marketing materials, and hope to produce 'pink
ribbon' badges. These will be offered to all hairdressers in NSW as
part of Austalian Breast Cancer Day (ABCD) in October this year.

On looking at your web site we noticed an illustration of the pink
ribbon in the title bar which would be excellent for our badges.

Is there some way that we can use this image? I noticed
that it is in jpeg form, and thus could be easily forwarded to our
email address.

If this is at all possible, and the illustrator is happy to help
us please contact me on this forwarding address. For more
information about our project, please refer to our web site at
http://www.bci.org.au.

Thankyou

Ilana

The image is a real ribbon which has been scanned in. You are welcome to download the title
bar and crop out the ribbon image. Let me know if this doesn't work and you need me to e-mail
a jpeg (though I often have probs e-mailing attachemnts - we work on Macintosh's).

Did you get "404 Not Found" or what? I just checked these and all came up immediately
for me. Perhaps you were just trying at a busy time?

Did you look at our Hotlist? Depends if you want info specific to France, clinical trials,
general info or what. CancerNet and Oncolink are good general sites to search on.

Let me know if you still have trouble getting through to our links and if I can help with more
specific info.

Marie

Hi,

Yes I got 404 not found, and I was trying to access at a reasonably busy
time - 5.30 French time, ie 4.30 UK time and just about when the West
coast were all coming on. I will try your suggestions, I wanted more
info on clinical trials etc. I will let you know if I still can't access
your other pages. Many thanks for your help,
Anna

I have looked at this site. Please let me know if you/zapped wish to provide a free
copy of this book so that I can decide if I wish to review it for our site.

Dear Marie Nally,
Yes I would provide the book "The Cure For All Cancer" by Hulda R. Clark
free if you will read it and give me your feedback. Are you a health
professional or cancer patient? What is your interest in cancer?
Please send your mailing address. If you are out of country (not in the
US) I would ask that you provide postage.

Hi Virginia,

>Yes I would provide the book "The Cure For All Cancer" by Hulda R. Clark

I have metastatic breast cancer and I set up and run the UK breast cancer web site
with another Nina Pope. We do this voluntarily and with no funding. All of this info
is on the web site.

>Please send your mailing address. If you are out of country (not in the

I am not in the US. I am not able to pay postage. We usually like to review books that
have particular relevance to UK breast cancer patients. I am put off by claims of cure.
If it were true, wouldn't the world be beating a path to the door? I am also put off by
commerical-sounding URLs such as

http://www.galaxymall.com/market/cure.html

If you still want to send me the book, I will consider reviewing it. My address is below.

Marie

Hi Virginia,

>you choose to believe that there is no cure.

You have mis-interpreted what I said:

>>I am put off by claims of cure. If it were true, wouldn't the world be beating a path
to the door?

I am happy to look at the evidence. I have read of and received e-mail regarding a number
of "cures" for cancer. I do not automatically believe everything I am told.

I will look at this when I have a chance.

Subject: Mastectomy Swimwear

Dear Joan My wife underwent a mastectomy last year.
Please are you able to tell me of suppliers of suitable swimwear in the
UK?
John Lewis, DH Evans, and Selfridges in Oxford Street seem to have a
very limited and rather expensive selection at present.

To: charles
Subject: Re: Mastectomy Swimwear

Hello Charles,

I am not sure if you have e-mailed via our site or your message was forwarded to me.

I assume you are in London if your wife has been shopping on Oxford St. Breast Cancer Care
can offer advice on mastectomy swimwear. I know they have catalogues of several suppliers
and have samples and a fitting room in the London office. You can contact them at:

Breast Cancer Care
Kiln House
210 New Kings Road
LONDON SW6 4NZ

Helpline (0171) 384 2344, Nationwide Freeline 0500 245 345
E-mail: support@bccare.demon.co.uk

I'm not sure how responsive they will be on e-mail, they only recently went on-line and are
still gettting to grips with it.

Lands End Catalogue also offers a mastectomy swimming costume. I think mastectomy
swimwear does tend to be expensive, e.g. £40 or so and if, like me, you prefer cotton, it is
hard to find what you want.

I think you can probably order mastectomy swimwear over the WWW (maybe even from Lands
End). I do not have any URLs to hand but could do some surfing if this would be of interest.

Best wishes,

Marie

You'd have to check with Bristol. I know that unless one has a special arrangement with the
bank, there can be a ridiculously high charge (e.g. £15) for banking a cheque in a foreign
currency.
